CLASH WITH POLICE

By Ignatious Isigi
Moi University students on Saturday night clashed with the police after causing havoc around F houses. The students had lit a huge fire and threatened to burn one of the houses before police were called.

The students complained about unavailability of power in their houses. They were so persistent that the police were forced to use live bullets to disperse them. One of the police officers claimed to have run out of bullets as they fired  severally in the air to disperse the rowdy students.

According to the MUSO chairman,Mr Mogire Onchiri Kenya Power and Lighting Corporation had been given close to kshs 11 million to install electricity but had been slow in the process.

Mr Mogire claimed that he has addressed many pertinent issues but the university has been slow in initiating them thereby students branding him as a non-performer. He added that the Kenya Power Eldoret branch has taken an unusually longer time to install the transformer in F houses and thus gave support to the students since it is their right to access electricity.

However, one of the officers assured the students of an immediate installation within 24 hours  and urged them to stay calm.
