GOVERNMENT PRESS

The Moi University third year information science students commenced their academic trip yesterday with their first visit being the government press
.The students had earlier gathered  at their meeting point near Nairobi Railways Station.

At the government press,the students were able to learn from the employees on how daily activities take place.

The government press is a government parastatal where the printing of state and accountable documents takes place.It consists of both analogue and digital printing technologies.

The government press consists of various sections that aids in the compiling of its documents to meet the needs of the end user.

These sections include :
 a) The digital printing room-Is where brochures and official president programs are produced.

b)Binding section-This is where printing is done by use of plates.Here the image areas are receptive to ink while non image areas are receptive to water.

c) The accountable section-This is where the accountable documents such as birth certificates and death certificates are  produced.

d) Photo com-This is the drawing office.It has a server for communication, a plate setter for exposing plates ,a processor to process exposed plates and a compressor to supply compressed air to the plate setter.

Generally, three types of papers are used in printing i.e newsprint,white bond and conqueror.
